    HOW TO FOR BEGINNERS

    Installing your first image

I always use dreamup for this connect the null modem cable to a com port on your pc then to the com port on the dreambox, untick the use network box at the top left of the page then click on connect, you will see the job status-progress bar fill up blue then it will ask you to turn the unit on saying connection prepared, at this stage plug the power cable into the unit.

I think that you explaind it in a best way how to setup a dreambox but mine major problem is that i have a laptop and only inputs i have is 15pin serial port and 4 usb ports.
So for me it is impossible to use Null Modem Cable.
I can only use USB - Serial cable and from what i read it is not best way.
I have problems now beacuse DreamUp don't recognize my Dreambox and i'm affraid that Windows Vista on my computer is also not working with it.
That's what i think so now i can't move on.
I still hope there is a way to do something so i don't end up destroying my computer in million pieces.

    What to do??
I asked this question in other posts and still waiting for answers.
Can i maybe use that 15pin input to convert it to 9pin with some adapters or what??

    Please help me.

      To make things simple

      1) Buy a null modem cable

      2) Buy a Aten RS232 to serial Adapter

If you have the right tools, it will work. If you bought a incompatible ones, you will face the same issue as what you are facing currently. Usb adapter is very critical and not easy to find the right one.

          for your info,
i bought about 20 pieces from different sellers on ebay and aliexpress. All the drivers can be installed. My laptop detected as a coms port. But...............
          Cannot be used.

If your adapter looks like any these below, high chance it wont detect your dreambox.

I'll try Null Modem cable tomorrow.

Try to install other version of dreamup. Some of the version seem like not working.

Make sure you have both cable and adapter

Some newbies only buy usb adapter and they use a converter so that it can connect to the male connector of the dreambox. It wont work.

You need to connect null modem cable to the Aten USB Adapter

                            Ok, this is not good.
I have desktop computer with Windows XP and i connect it with Null modem Cable. One end in to computer and other end in to dreambox 500c.
All other cables on dreambox are removed.
                            I start DreamUp (i tryed this versions: 1.3.2.1 - 1.3.3.0 - 1.3.3.2 - 1.3.3.3 - 1.3.3.4 - 1.3.3.5 - 1.3.3.8 - 1.3.3.9)
and i choose Port: COM1 (there are no other ports on list,
                            only COM1).
I untick Use Network and press Connect.
Message appears: Connection prepared, now switch on the dreambox.
I use power adapter and switch on the dreambox.
I can see there is power on and green light is on.
                            But nothing happens in DreamUp.

I really don't know what to do next.
I'm 99% sure that this is right way to do it.
                            I'm following Devilfishs guide.
Please help me on this one or help me God.

ok, seem that there is a problem with the box hardware.
I reckon it is the chip problem. Try replace the 74HCU04 chip and JS28F640J3D75 chip. Unless you can find someone who can replace the chips, otherwise the box will be useless. I do encounter such problems with a few boxes before.

Ok i forgot to tell you that i did something else before all this.
                                This is from another thread:

"I **** it all up, i'm so stupid.
I connect my dreambox to router and I opende a classic FTP and choose Quick connect and it finds my dreambox files.
Then I added a dk v1.1 to temp folder and choose manual update on my dreambox.
It asked me if i want to install new image, i said yes.
And now after dreambox reboot i can only see DK start picture and it disappear every 5 seconds leaving black screen.
It looks like it can't stop rebooting.

I disconnect and connect all cables but nothing changes.
                                I can't even use remote.

                                I messed this up. "

Read more on this thread where i discuss it with ypvs125.
