Power lead made a cracking sound

Just unplugged my DM500C, when I reconnected (plugged mains into adapter) it made a loud cracking sparking sound?
Now it doesn't work, fuse is OK.
Strange thing is this happened to a mate a week ago.
He has used another 12v adapter and it's OK now.
    Is this a known problem.

Ive had my Dreambox 500c for about 8 months and i have never had any problems like the one your having must be a dodgy power supply. only problem i have had is the key problem but everyone has, but i will wait for a fix instead of playing about with it in case i break it and i do not want to that.

I only unplugged it, toook it upstairs to link it to thr router.
When I plugged it back in- sparks!
There must be a good supplier of spares for these things?

The reason it cracks like that is because the power supply is trying to draw current, hence the power surge ie: cracking. The regulator in the power supply could have blown. Ideally you need to turn off at the plug socket first and then plug the mains into the adaptor.
