Hi All. I heard a rumour that VM will be switching something over next year which will make all our Dreams obsolete. Anyone heard anything about that or is it just a rumour? If correct is someone working on it?
Pete
The dreambox uses open source linux firmware. If Vm do anything to the boxes, it won't be to the boxes, it will be to the files in the firmware. And the files can always be changed. The dreambox will be around for a long time.
The are switching to NAGRA3 next year, it wont knock out the Dreamboxes, it will knock out all the NAGRA1 custom boxes tho that have been manufactured just to do that particular rom, NAGRA3 can already be viewed using CCcam v2.0.10 so we'll see what happens.
When this cahnges what will have to eurovox? Namely ex500 PVR will they be able to be flashed? I have a sagem dbox2 at the mo and am thinking of buying a newer box? Any recomendations?
You'll need a proper Linux box mate, the EuroVox will be dead! thats a custom made NAGRA1 box, that will be completely no use, the Dbox2 (unsure if that has the processing power to decrypt NAGRA3, if it does, it'll be slow!), the Dreamboxes will be fine, once the s/w and cams/emus are all sorted tho
If you have the money then the Dreambox 800 is superb mate, tho its all down to the s/w you run on the box that also makes a vast difference to the performance, deffo go for a proper linux box tho or you'll be wasting your money my friend.
Dreambox 600 PVR is around ?250, Dreambox 7020 PVR is about ?290, depends on size of HDD of course, prices are a rough guide tho for you.
i'm glad i made the decision to buy a dreambox when all around me were buyin digivox and the like's, there's a lot more to it than all the other basic box's, but isnt that why we're all part of these community's, the help i've recieved here is second to none.....
Totally agree, there is no competition for a dreambox as far as versatility is concerned.
This is the only site where the members are glad to share their extensive knowledge and help out new people like myself who haven't a clue otherwise.
Thanks to all for a great community.

its digital now mate, the analog era has long gone in 95% of the UK, the next move for VM is changing encryption systems, thats pretty much all that they have left to play around with.
But we all like a cat and mouse game dont we or we'd not be bothering....
