Where to get a working USB to RS232 Converter

Can anyone recommend which is the working USB to Rs 232 converter model that can provide a reliable connection via a null modem cable to the STB for flashing image file?

I bought a CH430 chipset USB to RS 232 converter recently and it simply can't do the job. There are different opinions on the Belkin Pl 2303 chipset USB to RS232 converter performance. I have to make use of the old PC com port to update image but as nowdays almost all the new PC are without built in RS 232 com port, it is still better to source for a reliable converter if we can get one.

Do you know what is the brand or chipset in that USB-RS232 converter?

      Thanks.

Regardless of chipset as long as it is WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Labs) Certified.

To be honest... I really do not know what chipset in the converter & also forget the brand already since I bought it like early last year.

I think I'm just lucky & maybe too calculative as I walk the whole SLT looking around for the cheapest. Vispro have the cheapest ($8.00) & my 1st piece work.

I have also bought a few pieces on several visit for my friend & no problem therefore have marked them as my long-term supplier.

What, S$8? I got it at S$ 18 from Vispro this afternoon. They probably increase the price after reading bro SGDVB's good recommendation. Anyway, no regrete since it works.

Beware that they only open MON - FRI, from 2pm - 7pm.

Attached its photos to help other bros here to source a cheaper one in other shops if they can find one.

Haha... Not this one. Mine abit transparent green one but always out of stock for this one. maybe I should leave some for the other to buy. I always go buy 3-5 pieces.

I did saw this one but too expensive.

Was abit worry at first b'cos of the price so first time only get one & go back to try.

The shop opened late at 3 pm today. I was in a hurry and didn't take a good look at the display racks. I trusted the Auntie who passed me this expensive one and told me that this is the only model selling there.

I'm so lucky... I was always served by a sweet girl, not bad looking.

Try to go again the next time & ask them for the green colour abit transparent one.

                    Hi SGDVB,

Is this what you have? This could be a clone of what I have bought as they have exactly the same packaging. The seller told me mine is original that why it is more expensive. Anyway, as long as it works who care if it is a clone or not. This is selling at DealExtreme at US $3.73 only with free shipping.

Yes... It look like the one I have but please be beware, altot same packaging & look the same, might not be able to use.

I went to shenzhen very often & over there, they sell the same thing too & really really very cheap. Bought 1 at only $0.60 to try but dun work. What is $0.60 so din bother to change.

Dealextreme got their stock mainly from shenzhen too so din order from them altot only US$3.73. Perhap you like to invest & try. Let all know if it work & contribute to the community.

Once I find a reliable source of usb convertor, I will stick to them till I find a next better source.

No way. I bought a similar looking green colour usb - rs232 converter from a UK e-bay seller and it doesn't work. Not going to waste money again.

I was using that expensive S$18 dollars converter to test flash a numbers of image files over long hours without any problem.

Thanks again Bro SGDVB for your head up.

Arraysys, no more sexy looking lady but a handsome penguin now?

USB-> serial convertor works pretty well.
its uses FDTI chip, that would work on pretty much any windows machine.
cost about sub $20ish from the cable shop right infront of the glass lift @ SLS Top floor
