You need a satellite dreambox DM500s or DM800sHD depends on
how much you want to spend. You will need a sat dish for either
box. There are many servers for these boxes. You might have
trouble finding server for cable dreambox

All the above boxes are working on cable in UK when connected
to cable & internet, but none of them are dreamboxes.
You should ask your initial source which box they were referring
to. Any cable dreambox will work if you can find server. I would
be interested to know what reply you get from source

To answer your question...

Any box that has an ethernet port that is capable of running popular images (such as enigma/pli jade etc) will run softcam cam emu s/w...

It's not a specific box you need to share cards, I use bog standard DM500C's for my VM share, it's the data you need to setup the c/s server that is more important...

If you aren't able to get onto a VM c/s, do as above and join one of the many satellite servers out there, using a DM500S (or an HD equivelent).

They are all pretty much the same, the only real difference is some have HDDs and some don't, some are HD and some are not, some are cable and some are satellite (some have twin tuners, either cable/sat or sat/sat) etc etc...

As long as you get the obvious things correct, don't worry about s/w compatibility

The incomming signal is not governed by the box you're using but by the cable/cabinet connection or the dish/lnb combination..
