ive set my self a challenge, need help

ok, i can record a live stream from the net using vlc and have it save in what ever format i choose. i can then open this file and watch it while its being recorded. I want to be able to open it on my dreambox. Im doing this for 3pm footy on saturdays. now, if i open the file(while its being recorded on my pc, it opens fine and i watch it. But when i open it on the db, it plays, but i get a black screen.

this is what i do:

open vlc
open a stream from the net and let it buffer
right click to get address from the stream ie http://132.345.2.100:12345/
go to vlc and open a network stream
put the address in the http bit
tick stream/save and click settings(this opens a new window)
tick locally and tick file
put the name of your file, ie footi.mpeg in your shared folder for your db
click ok and then ok and the stream will play in vlc(this is also being recorded to your shared folder.

now you can open vlc again and be able to open this file and watch it while its recording(proof that it can work)

the thing is, i cant find a decent format to get it to play when selecting the file on my db

any ideas?

I record from DB to my laptops harddrive using WinGrab and it saves the file to my harddrive, then i have to convert the file to a dvd format and burn it to disc.
I would like to know how i could just stream it straight back to the DB and watch it on the TV, cus it takes ages to convert.

you can use, myvideoconverter to convert to mpeg2, you put it in the shared folder and you will find it under file mode on your box

Never tried doing this before so thought i'd have a little mess after seeing your post.
Results:
I tried a BBC Stream
Filename: "whatever.mpg"
Encapsulation Method: ASF
Video Codec: DIV2

Used movie player on the DB and it found the movie and started playback.

Not had any problems so far on playback, but still early days as its only been playing for 5 minutes.

right, what is movie player? is this file mode?

Movie player is a plugin on the pli images, but im sure i saw somewhere on here that it can be installed onother images.
