how to chmod help

hi guys can someone please explain how to chmod just downloaded new commando image never done it before
people on the site just say chmod file to var bin it means nothing to me
please help

In your ftp proggy highlight the file you want and right click, in the drop down menu you will see at attributes (CHMOD) click on that then change the Nos to 755, this is in flashfxp but should be similar in other progs.
