attention ireland dbox users

chaps i need your help i'm helping out a guy in ireland he says hes connecting his dbox to the aeriel on the roof can someone confirm that this is the way cable tv is broadcast us in the uk connect from an outside box if so can you describe what its like and is there any differences from digital tv aeriel and cable aeriel

Yes mate it's called MMDS and uses an ariel with a downconverter similar to terrestrial!

You need a terestrial box such as eurovox TX.


Chorus in irl use MMDS, NTL is true cable.

He's probably using MMDS ( see Multichannel Multipoint Distribution Service - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ). It's used in Ireland in a few locations that are not cabled. Some sort of over the air digital transmission pre freeview. DBOX won't work afaik. It's a different tuner I think. He'll need a dreambox 500t or THE BOX-T. Good Luck.

thanks mate theres hope still any reason why its not scanning is there any image that works best in ireland hes had a right game if we could get our hands on a service file for co kerry we would be half way there

He needs a Dvb-T box on chorus MMDS .

not sure this is true there are reports of people in eire using dbox2 with mmds and chorus using sym rate of 6875....there are service files posted from cork for the dbox2
