use a normal ethernet......give ur dbox an ip addy 1 above ur pc, use the pc ip addy as the dns server and the router ip addy as the default gateway..........dbox - settings - network

I just used a random ip address which wasn't taken for my box.
Why would the pc ip be the dns address? The dns address should be the router or some external dns service.
Agreed- my router is fixed IP 192.168.0.1 and my dBoxes connected to it are 192.168.0.3 / 192.168.0.4 and 192.168.0.5 respectively. Each dbox accesses the web no problem, via the VM DNS.
The fact that my PC is 192.168.0.2 is neither here nor there. My dboxes still pull in live webcam pix from all over the world, even if the PC is shut down. But more important to me, is that from my PC- I can access each dbox via FTP, Telnet, yWeb, and even IFA!!
any ipaddy will do if its ur routers range....next one up if nothing else connected
my pc is hard wired to my router and acts as a server but may not need to be set to access the web but i do it just to get all pings...
the router is the default gateway
try ipconfig /all in cmd prompt, my Def Gate is the routers ip addy.....these settings never failed me.
this is what i get with dns server not set to pc

when set correctly

Don't understand why it ever has to be the next one up.
In the first pic it will work if you define the dns as 192.168.1.1
I understand what you're saying about setting it up as the pc ip but since your pc itself is not a dns server it will eventually just redirect the request to your router anyway, and then finally to virgin or whichever dns service you use.

what would you say is best to do in my setup , my pc is setup to a linksys wireless router , that provides access for all lads pcs and laptops , if i set up the small belkin router on the dbox , how do i go about setting it up so that it picks up the existing network?
Google is your friend. Just google your Linksys model number- and you should find the manual online. Usually in pdf format, which you can then save to your pc.
