    7 Day EPG Filter

    Hi All,

A quick question about the 7 day EPG, if anyone can help.

I have downloaded the Commando 10d 2x image and set my location, both for scanning and the 7 day epg to my area.

I have also set the box to 7 day epg (as opposed to the 15hr default).

I am leaving my box on (which it has been for over 2 hours now) on the channel PVR_EPG.

The problem I have is that it seems to be taking ages to pick up the EPG for the channels. It is getting there, slowly but surely, but should it take over 2 hours. BBC1 is now showing full listing for 7 days and so are a few other channels.

However the PPV channels are only showing about 3 listings for today.

Anything I can do, or have I got a setting wrong?

    Thanks in advance.

It only needs 5 to 10 mins on PVR_EPG or in Standby (which switches to PVR_EPG, the back to your previous channel on wake-up)- to harvest the 7 Day EPG.

The important thing to remember is that the dBox2 simply doesn't have enough memory to store 7 Days EPG for ALL channels!! So what we do, is 'filter' the channels, so that the 90 or so popular channels we watch most have 7 days epg. While the crap channels we rarely watch are restricted to Now 'n Next epg only, rather than 15 hours ahead.

Do you really need to know what's on QVC in a week's time, LOL? But you can customize this to suit yourself, as the filters provided with the image are 'starters' to work on, thanks to:

    Derekwd for ex-C+W
    Tyke for TW
    and me, for Pure
(not forgetting FreddyFrog for the whole idea in the first place!)

    Cheers- AL

      Thanks that worked.

Managed to tweak the "epgfilter" files. Thank you.

Can anybody point me in the right direction for how to tweak the 7-day EPG? Think it's excellent, BTW.

Yes- first arm yourself with a quality Text Editor; metapad is Freeware, and is just the job for editing xml files. Don't use Notepad or Wordpad for such edits, as both are liable to corrupt the file with EOL codes that stop sectionsd from reading it.

All the filter files live in /var/tuxbox/config/zapit - which one you customize is dependent on what EPG Mode you're running, and what area you're in.

For Standard Mode - it's old_epgfilter.xml - and this contains lines copied and pasted from bouquets.xml then edited to match the existing shortened lines. All entries in here are for channels you want to restrict to Now 'n Next EPG Only.

For Selective Mode - the file is Area-specific:-
            • Pure NTL: ntl_epgfilter.xml
            • ex-C&W: C&W_epgfilter.xml
            • Telewest: TW_epgfilter.xml
Edit the right one for your provider! Entries in here are channels that you want 7 Day EPG for. So channels NOT in this filter list will be Now 'n Next only.

And that's it! FTP is obviously required, as is a reboot for the new file to be read into memory. Hint: The more channels you can limit to Now 'n Next- the easier life becomes for your dBox!!

Commando 11 will have FreddyFr0g's very latest sectionsd with a third option (which will be default setting in the release): 7 Days EPG on Channels 1 to 90 - where no filters are needed!

            Cheers- AL
