    dbox2 tuner

My mate has somehow separated the socket where the cable feed goes into the tuner from the tuner on his dbox2.

Luckily for him he is a sparky so he has tools such a soldering iron etc but he's asking me all sorts of questions about it.

Does anyone have any experience in this kind of repair? Will he be able to just solder it back on or is a case of it being fenged and him needing to buy a new tuner?

As long as nothing as been damaged in the tuner, he can solder it back and should be fine, quite a few ppl have done this.

seen a few like this on the bay, seems a weak point, can be soldered though, best to be carefull, low powered iron etc.

make sure your iron is on a very low watage as these tend to burn out with a very hot soldering iron.

Well, we did the job but the tuner wasn't having it.

Sig and SNR were sweet but the BER was through the roof.

              Put services on etc, nada.

Did a scan, it found ~20 channels and all were jumping at best and nothing at all at worst.

Got a bootlog if anyone is interested but it's been written off at this end.

If the ber reading is 26214 try a slx1p booster on it.

Can't give you the exact figure for the ber as he's taken the box away with him but if memory serves it was in excess of 38k. I'm trying to convince him to give me the thing as a test box now, if he does give it to me I'll let you know what it is.

Am now going to look up what a slx1p booster is!

Have gotten this box now and will eventually get round to getting one of these things for it.

Perhaps after work tomorrow if I get time.
