    cant flash the dbox2

    Hello All,

Im in need of your help again please. i have so far flashed TWO dbox2's, with minor problems, but i got there in the end.

Recently purchased a new dbox2 with an old Sportster 2.0 (uk05) image on it.

Happy that this would make my life connecting via a crossover much easier, i changed the ip settings to the following:

    DBOX2:

    IP: 192.168.0.4
    SUBNET MASK: 255.255.255.0
    DEFAULT GATEWAY: 192.168.0.8

    Pc Lan card:

    Chaned ip to: 192.168.0.3
    Subent changed to: 255.255.255.0

Now this is what i did last time to connect to my other boxes, but for some reason either the box is fcked or im clearly doing something very wrong.

Ive tried, what i belive is every possible solution, but am hoping you guys can help me on this.

    Am using FLASH FXP with:

    username: root
    passowrd: dbox or dbox2

neither seem to work, and nothing seems to want to connect.

    Your help is much appreciated.

    Regards

Are you connecting the box straight to your PC?

Try and remove the ip address in the default gateway section, this is only if you are using a router. If you can't remove it, put the PC ip address in there.

Remember to save the network settings on the dbox2 after you edit them and remember to 'Start/Restart Network' or reboot the box before the changes will take effect.

If you have image flashing assistant you dont need to change anything inside the box for you to flash a new image. Unless if you want to transfare files to the box.

For me my PC is set already to 10mbps/half duplex so whenever i get a new box i just start the IFA and connect the box via both null and x-over cable and an image will be flashed

        DevilFish,

Im not using a router mate, sorry i wasnt more specific. im connecting straight to the laptop. I havent, as you kindly informed me, set the default gateway to the SAME IP as me laptops. i didnt know i had to do that, and shall do it now.!

With respect to the daving, i start/restart the network each time ater a change, and then even press "save changes " on the previous menu too!

do you know if the password im using is correct?

right did as instructed above to no avail.

downloaded some new IFA thing from the website, didnt help much at all. kept bringing up errors so didnt even bother going further with that.

secondly, with the knowledge of the new "sportster" passwrd, i tried to connect again. still nothing.

changed the speed of the card to 10mbps half duplex, did jack shizzle. changed the IPs around, useless too.

i dont know what it could be now. is there no way to hack into these fliiping crapy machines to get what the username and passwrd actually are, if it is possible to change them?

Im doing this off my laptop, like i did the last two times. using vista, changed the newrk ip adds manually.

cant see anything else excpet a faulty box really. and tbh if its not fault it will be by the times ive chucked it out the wondow

i think it could be 1 of 2 things might be wrong though. 1st
make sure you are setting the internet protocol (tcp/ip) bit first then changing to the 10baset full duplex as if you do it the opisite way it will not save the ip. 2nd in the local area connection properties make sure at the bottom there are to boxes tick them both.. hope this helps

IFA brings up errors for a reason, please post them. Are you using the standalone version of IFA?

im using the IFA i got from the website; called DBOX2 IMAGE FLASH? is that familair to you.

after having filled the required boxes, i press next and it asks me to connect the lead and then power on the box. after having done so, it reports that a reuest is sent, but then never gets past this stage........just stays at "waiting for dbox startup" and by then my dbox has already loaded and is waititng for a signal.

Try ifa again. If your box is booting up then something is blocking ifa from connecting try this it always works for me.

1/ Make sure you turn off antivirus, firewall and disable wirless network.
2/ make sure your network card has a static ip address and is set to 10mbps half duplex.
3/ switch on your dbox and conect your crossover cable.
4/ Start ifa and select the image you want to flash when you press start a box will come up saying your computer will now be prepared for the flashing process,
5/press ok then restart the dbox by pressing and holding the power and up buttons on the dbox simultainiously till the box restarts.

the lcd on the box should say flashing if it doesn't something is blocking the network, eventually it will say fertig this means finished. shut down ifa and restart the box again your new image should be installed.
