    DBOX2 Repairs

Hi lads. A mate has given me a Nokia Dbox2 to see if I can fix it. It seems in top condition, but I cant get the channels up on it. I'm fairly knowledgable when it comes to the software and have set up many boxes.

This one however seems as though its not receiving any input when I test the signal strength on screen, although the box is in great condition... So, what do I do next ? Is it easy to replace the tuner ?

My first problem is that I can't open the box. My other box has standard screws, but this one has some odd star shaped alan key type screws. How do I open those ?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Im sure the box is ok, as the screen boots fine and the software onscreen is great - just needs updating. Im guessing if theres no signal input it must be the tuner ?!?

Cheers guys - Hope someone gets back to me.

Hey dude. The tuner in the Nokias is pretty easy to replace if you have the right gear and are good with a soldering iron. Just make sure that you manage to fully desolder all of the pins or you can damage the barrels in the pin-holes where the tuner solders to the board when you remove the tuner.

The screws are anti-tamper torx type screws. They have a little pin right in the centre to stop people opening them without the correct tools. If you dont have the right anti-tamper 'T' bit you can either try and snap off the little pins but this is a pain in the backside. What i tend to do if i cant find the correct bit is use a flat bladed screwdriver that is small enough to fit in the star shape of the screw head. The driver head should sit just to the side of the pin and hopefully lock into place in two of the points of the star shaped hole......i hope im making sense as im almost losing myself here . Its just a matter of unscrewing them. Once you have the screws removed, see if you can find other screws that have the same thread as the ones you removed. Try carefully screwing one into the hole. If you get screws that fit, just launch the anit-tamper ones straight in the bin as you will never need them again.

Hope my ramblings are of some help to you and you manage to understand what im talking about(most people dont ).

As the previous poster has said, get the lid off using a flat head. Then, using a soft brush, clean the circuit board. Take care around the CPU's as they retain charge.

Once you've done this, put the box back together and give it a whirl.

Nice one lads. After a bit of searching I found out about torx screws. I have a mate with some torx head screwdrivers so will give them a shot. Will have a poke about and come back to you.

        Thanks for the posts.
