cant connect to dbox2 via ethernet

Dear All,

having looked at previous threads to try and solve the problem, im getting absolutely nowhere.

im trying to connect to the DBOX2 with a COMMANDO 10D image on it, in fully working conditon at the mo.

Dbox:

IP: 192.168.000.003

Pc:

Set it to half-duplex 10mbps
ip: 192.168.000.002
subnet mask: auto set to 255.255.255.0

All firewalls are off. am using windows vista. using FLASH FXP.

try and conect using:

username: root
password: commando

And ive tried it in as many variations possible but it just is refusing to give me any access. im out of ideas and need your help please.

is it the laptop or is the dbox just being a twat? have no idea where to go from here now.

start from the begining.

direct connection to the dbox (must be a cross over lead) OR via a router ( a standard patch lead) ?

you want to make sure you're actually connecting to it first, if it's XP or Vista you'll get the "local area network connection" is connected icon on the system tray.

is that bit working first?

Can you ping the box from the laptop?

Are you getting a login prompt from the box?

Can you ping the box IP from your PC?

As it is a laptop maybe you are setting the wireless IP, not the ethernet IP, disable wireless while you are messing.

the icon you mention does appear, however i always get LIMITED CONNECTIVITY. firewalls are all off, i have no thirdp arty firewall, and i use AD-AWARE MALWARE, which is laos turned off.

thats exactly what im doing. i switch of the wireless first, and then i go about changing my ethernet port settings to relevant ones. shall report back on ping once i know how to.

however, when i am connected, with the limited connectivity sign on. the dbox says that its ip is "reachable" when i select "test networt" from dbox settings

that will open a command window on your PC

Type

ping 192.168.0.3

press enter

It will send 4 pings and report on whether it got a repl or not.

how and why would that happen though given that im changing them manually! you think the settings on the dbox are reverting to default?

having just pinged my box, this was the result produced in command:

What cable you using? Re you going direct to the box or thru a router?

So you have no connection to the dbox

This may be because you are using a straight cable. Take the cable out at both ends and hold hte plugs together, look at the colours of the wires. If the same colour is in the same position on both plugs then you have a straight cable adn it will never work, you need a cross over.

OK, maybe soemthing more is going on here if the dbox says the network is OK.

not sure but mine was and dboxs do if your timing isnt right ,also i was just doing mine on the desktop and when i set the duplex, coming out and clicking ok/save,when looking back that had not saved

either the settings on the dbox are wrong, settings on the PC or you're not using a cross-over patch lead.

is it defo a cross over patch lead? a normal network cable won't work. on the dbox, if you go into 'active settings' that will tell you what the dbox's IP is.
