    N2 Encryption in Ireland

    Hi Guys,

Great forums, love reading through them!

I'm located in Dublin, Ireland. I'm pretty computer savvy, familiar with linux and have lots of hardware (cross over cable, null modem cable, smart card reader etc). I have a digital max subscription to NTHell / Ch0ru5 - UPSee is on the bill! I also have a DBox. Up until just over a month ago everything was working fine on the DBox but then slowly it started losing channels.. I know, i know, they have switched to new encryption - n2 and/or n3! Two weeks ago I got a new card for my UPSee box - presumably in line with the new encryption measures being enabled.

My "official" UPSee digital box is one of the old ones - small silver ones - that I read elsewhere is only capable of n2.

    I've two questions:

    1) Since n2 has already been cracked by the Kryptview team (Kryptview Boxes) is there some way to make use of the fix available for Kryptview boxes on a DBox? Both are linux based and, as far as i'm aware, work in a similar way..

    2) Since I have an official card from UPSee, can I somehow dump the data and use it via softcam etc. on my DBox?

I'm no expert on this whole process as you can probably tell! Any advice / comments on the matter are much appreciated. Thanks guys.

I wasn't aware the kryptview was a linux based box?

The Itgate boxes are linux based and have a fix out for n2, also the SV4 and now the digivox have fixes out for n2 as well.

To be honest mate, the people that have been doing the fixes for years are having problems with n2, so i don't think you will be able to crack it. Nothing personal, i wouldn't be able to do it myself, and have no problem admitting it.

      Hi Evastar,

Yeh, sorry. I've been reading so many forums lately all the brands have merged into one!

To be honest mate, the people that have been doing the fixes for years are having problems with n2, so i don't think you will be able to crack it.
I'm not suggesting I could crack anything! As I said, i'm not an expert on any of this.. My thinking was that my official NTHell box was originally only capable of decrypting n1. I now have a card that contain's something enabling it to decrypt the new encryption, n2. I presume the basis behind the fix for the other linux based boxes is that they've obtained a dump from a new NTHell card and have updated the various components.

... or perhaps I just don't know enough about the whole process and am missing why this is not possible / correct!

I'm not too well up on the cards myself, i know there are a number of different types and that it's pretty complicated, not just a matter of cracking the files on the card and dumping them. The only linux based box that has a fix out so far is the Itgate, and that took something like 11 weeks, with an experienced, dedicated support team, that's all i'm saying - that if it was that simple, the other teams would have their fixes out too.

you would need the boxkey and rsa from the card to use the card in box,,
only way to get that would be dumping the n2 card.
you can only dump nagra rom110 revA05.
your new card is probably rom142, or if is nagra2 will be probably rom110A07

p.s all UPC boxes will handle the n3!,, its just a new card you get,, some the old old boxes may need replaced on the chorus network perhaps, but the newer boxes all should manage it no problem
          boom!

you need to stick it in a card-reader and reset it to get the ATR.
              boom!

Thanks for the details Satman. I'll go in search of more info on what you've mentioned! It's good to learn something new everyday

Yes poolfan it would indeed. open in nagraedit and reset card it will give you card details and revision number etc blah blah,, you can tell from the ATR itself, but with nagraedit it will just tell you anyway.
