When you have problems with your box than the null modem cable is the only option for flashing your box.

The ethernet is always quicker but if you ever find yourself having problems flashing your dreambox than you always use the null modem cable. The experienced dreambox users will always say that it is only matter of time before you will need a a null modem cable.

Havent used a null for 5 years
          Not for Flashing anyways
Havent coeme across a box yet that wouldent flash with a crossover alone.
But if you read the rules ,
It says use both .......................Good Luck ...........Paul

a crossover cable is a RJ45 (ethernet) cable with 2 wire crossed over in it, and is used to flash or ftp into linux based boxes like dreambox, dbox2 etc.

for your digivox you need a RS232 null modem cable which you have

cross over lead (for direct connecting from PC > Box)

                OR

Normal network ethernet patch lead (for box > router)

If you're wanting to use FTP (which you will for dboxs, dreamboxs, etc) then NULL MODEM won't do.
