I agree they are very good But you have to watch out because dream multimedia don't make the 500c anymore so you will most likely get a clone if you order 1 !
That said some clones are now as good (if not better) than the originals.
I personally have moved over to the Arnet cryptview and the Starview 2 super ! simply because of the ease of set-up and use as far as the channel numbers and auto set-up of the favorites.
@ the end of the day its all about what you want to do with the box ? If you want to just watch tv then the latter boxes are fine, If you want to network your box and turn it into a pvr then the dreambox may be the one for you.
Finally don't forget you can get pvr versions now which essentially replaces the need to network to your computer and for that reason makes 500 a bit of a waste of time, nowadays the whole process is easier for you to just purchase a 600c pvr or one of the other eurovox/starview type boxes.
Hope this helps a bit m8.Last edited by pacman362; 28 June, 2008, 09:29.Comment

@ Youngpab
I agree the Sagem is a great box, it gets a lot of bad press but I adore mine
Don't worry about getting a clone DM500, in a few cases the clones are actually superior to the original DM500, but not all clones are equal some are pretty poor, just be careful and ask around the forum if you do decide to get a DM500 - BTW it is guaranteed that if you do buy a DM500 then it WILL be a clone, but as stated, this is not necessarily a bad thing.
I have a Chinese Clone and it's far superior to my Original German Dream Multimedia DM500.
DM500 (including clones) have the best support.
RE: ITgate, I'd look elsewhere mate. it's basically a hardware duplicate of the DM500 but the 'developers' tend to rely on Dreambox fixes being released 1st then they magically update thier boxes. I'm not saying the boxes are poor, because they are not, but I'd advise that you go for a clone DM500 instead.
Just my opinion.
Kryptview is also a superb machine with amazing support, better than the Dreamboxes infact, but I like the Linux side of Dreamboxes.Last edited by C64; 28 June, 2008, 23:00.Comment

How do you explain the itgate only hypercam?RE: ITgate, I'd look elsewhere mate. it's basically a hardware duplicate of the DM500 but the 'developers' tend to rely on Dreambox fixes being released 1st then they magically update thier boxes. Absolutely mate.
I've had my hands on nearly all available boxes at one time or another, the ITgate is indeed a fine box but the people behind it are a bit grey, they rely on others to fix their problems.
Hardware = Good.
Support = Not as good as it should be.

@ Neil
, I'll let the person who created the fix answer this.
He is a member on here, he released the last AU fix and then within days ITgate released Hypercam, the Linux fix was actually delayed partly because he knew the ITGate team were waiting on it.
Hypercam in good, and it's 99% their own work but it would be useless without a certain members Auto-Updating fix.
It's not my place to discuss this, if the guy who fixed it wants to come forward and explain things, I'd welcome it.

As already mentioned the DM500 is no longer made - was replaced by the DM500+. The clone boxes are equally as good in some cases, and also cheaper. Have heard good reports about the "Eagle" box supplied by another well known forum. The support is excellent and for less than ?100 you can do everything a DM500 was capable of.Comment
