start sshd and httpd

Is it possible to start sshd and httpd on the dbox2? I have a sagem box and have seen a script in /etc/init.d/start and another /etc/init.d/start_sshd
How can I get sshd to start on boot? I have used linux for over 10 years but don't want to edit any files and render my box unbootable. vsftpd is working fine though...

I'm guessing the worst that can happen is that you would need to reflash the box if you made it unbootable... thank goodness for a null modem cable and a crossover cable... its saved me many a time!!!
