Can anyone help with dbox flashing

Trying to flash the dbox with a null modem cable.
I have followed the instructions posted on this site using com1 ang the following port settings
9600 bites, data bits 8, parity - none, stop bits 1, flow control Xon/Xoff - after depressing OK i get a message saying another progamme is using the telephony device, try later when its finished.

    Any ideas welcome

If you have crossover cable and the box boots up why not ftp the image to the /tmp folder and flash it via the dbox menu's
as you will have to ftp the box after you flash it anyway.

      problems flashing a dbox

      Not sure what you mean.
I am new to this and not very technical on the pc.

I don't know what a cross over cable is for starts or what ftp means.

i when out and purchased a 9 pin female to female null modem cable and tried to follows stickys instructions

What happened to the box was i did i service scan which messed up the channels, but you could still use them.

Unfortunately, my wife was not too happy with the new set up and messed around in the tux settings and the box will not work now. It starts to load, you then get a blank screen and loads of jargan on the lcd screen on the box and then it just goes off.

Any idea on how i can sort this with my null modem cable would be much appreciated

The first thing i would suggest it go and buy a ethernet crossover cable because even if you did manage to flash a image on using the nullmodem cable you would still need to transfer some files to the box using ftp (file transfer program) software like flashfxp to get the non fta channels to work
unless you have a fully working backup of the image thats on the box before the missus knackered it then you would be able to flash using the nullmodem method only.

          download Process Explorer

check if a program is already using your COM port, press Ctrl+F, and do a search for "serial". If a COM port is being used by an application, you will see its process ID. you can match the process ID with the process name to see what the program is and terminate that process.

          COM1 should show as \Device\Serial0, COM2 as \Device\Serial1 etc...

            problems flashing a dbox

I downloaded process explorer, typed in search "serial" and the following came up

            System 4 Handle \device\serial0

does not really mean much to me. i will go out & but a crossover cable and try that.

            Thanks anyway

maybe your system thinks there is a serial mouse attached?

in your device manager try a hardware scan on the com port

              right-click MY COMPUTER
              click MANAGE
              select DEVICE MANAGER
              select COMMUNICATIONS PORT(COM1)
              right-click SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES

see if System 4 Handle \device\serial0 is still detected in process explorer
