You mite want to check your bios settings if you serial port has stopped or a windows update may have damaged the driver so do a roll back if this is the case. Check you device manger to see if you have a damged drive ir should apear with a yellow ! mark on it. Failing that I would then check the settings in windows for the serial port as these can stop it working right.
