You will only get sound out the digital audio if you are playing MP3s. Normal channels don't carry digital audio so you won't hear anything.

Use the stereo left and right audio for normal tv channels.

Also try flicking through the audio settings (DBOX > SETTINGS > AUDIO).

Are you sure thats correct. I've got a dbox and I plug it into a surround sound amp via the two phono's and I certainley get what sound like surround sound.

As I said above, the stereo phono works but the digital audio doesn't because the sound isn't digital.

              you can't get surround through L & R phono's mate. it's physically impossible!

the tv sound will come through the optical output from the box... i know most channels are just in stereo, there may be some films in surround, but i dont know.

if you use the dbox to play mp3's then these will not play through optical output. they need the phono cables.

As DavC says, you can't get more than two channels of audio out of the two channel analogue audio jack that is on the back of the dbox!

All the surround sound amp you have is doing is taking a two channel stereo feed (the same as what goes to the two speakers in your tv) and splitting it out over four/five channels.

No standard definition uk cable channels transmit in 5.1.

For some reason I thought you could encode the dolby efects within the signal but I'll obviously bow to your superior knowledge.

Just to reinforce it I put the amp in auto detect and it did pick 2 ch stereo. Still sounds ok in simulated 5:1 but now you've got me experimenting with the amp. The biggest difference appears to be that it won't directly drive the base speaker using LFE.
