what is the purpose of a splitter?

a splitter is used so that you can run for example (a 2 way splitter) a box and a modem, or 2 boxxes...3 way splitter, 1 modem 2 boxes, or 3 boxes

It is possible to check if you are running a box other than the one provided by your cable company, however they need to specifically be looking for it - a lot of cost and hassle when there are bigger fish to fry.

Boxes are relatively safe as they do not send any data - picked up by spikes in the signal.

A mans home is his castle! Unless there is a police officer with a search warrant (and the search warrant must specify what they are looking for) then don't let anybody into your home. You are innocent until proven guilty. If you are found to be 'stealing' 'pay-to-view' programs you will have a criminal record! that will exlude you from such things as visiting the USA, working with children or even having a job that is a 'notifiable occupation' i.e your employer can sack you (with no re-course to un-fare dismissal) because they will be informed of your arrest. If the search warrent is for drugs, for example, and they find you 'stealing' 'pay to view programs' then that evidence can not be used against you, and you can't be arrested for that offence.

All when I started this thread it was just a thought, and i did not expect so much response. Well thats what happens when you play the "What If" game. Some of the cleverst criminals in world were caught by silly mistakes, and our old friend complacency.

No more from me on this topic, i think its fair to say when you look at all the comments on this thread its a fair assumption that we are not as safe from detection as we think. They dont have to catch hundreds, they just have to catch one and drag them through the press and courts.

Similar theory to multi socket power adapter. You know, the one you have under your PC desk with your PC, phone charger, monitor and ipod dock plugged into. All running back to one wall socket.

One incoming feed can be split into multiple feeds to supply extra equipment.

I feel the cable companies can and will fight back even more so this coming year

here is a thought for the techy guys, if you are on a minimal cable service, and the original installed box which will have talkback, is disconnected and a Eurovox or any other stb is substituted surely the cable operator can try to contact their stb electronically over the cable, and if they cant but cable activity is present to the premises surely this could cause suspicion and possibly maybe instigate an un announced visit maybe it would be better to connect the orginal stb from the cable company and piggy back the starviewbox so if the cable company try to communicate with their box they will get a response i welcome comments back on this theory from the techy experts on here I eally think this is feasable as a method of trac

People have left subbed stuff off for months and yes they do know.When they change the encryption people re-connect the subbed box only to find most channels missing.What do they do next,ring in complaining of missing channels,go figure.

You do not even have to grant a bailiff entry into your premises - never mind somebody with suspicions on what box you are using.
