EX5000 PVR HDD Problem - Help Please?!!

I have an issue with the PVR function of my Eurovox EX5000 that I'd really appreciate anyone's advice with?!

Previous to this error the HDD was approx. 27% full.

When I hit the PVR button I should have about 13 recordings on there but instead all I get is;

1.ITV1
2.rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

...and no other options, then the unit hangs and restarts.

If I try to record something by hitting the record button it gives the normal "Please wait......" message and looks as though it's recording and then I hit stop and again it goes through all the motions and messages as normal but doesn't actually show anything other than the 2 above in PVR and then hangs and restarts again.

I have tried removing and reseating the HDD and resetting the EX5000 etc. but nothing seems to be working

Any ideas anyone pleeeeeeeeeese?!!

I had the same problem i tried for hours to restore the recordings in the end the only way i could use the pvr function again was to go into the menu and clear the hdd data. seem to be working fine now but its only been a week or so since i wiped it so i may loose all the recordings again

Thanks for the reply, I kind of thought that might be the next step but I was hoping that I could get it working without wiping it.....

Sounds like it may have gotten corrupted ? Have you thought about removing the drive and copying it to a PC ? Saved content just might be salvageable. All you need is a 2.5" HDD 'caddy' (from about ?6) and a couple of USB ports available on the computer, plus a spare <80gb + on the HDD.
There is plenty of free 'salvage' software available.
It would also help in being able to check the drive for bad sectors etc.

Try taking the HDD out then turn the box off at the mains for a couple of mins, then turn the EV back on and run it for a min with the HDD out then turn it off again and re-insert the HDD and back on again. See if that makes any difference.

Thanks HiTech I tried this a couple of times with no luck and as for salvaging the content of the HDD... I've heard (from other posts on this forum) you can't because as soon as you hook the drive upto a PC it wipes it!

...anyhow, I bit the bullet and erased the recordings through the normal menu options and the drive works OK now but I obviously lost the recorded content ....hope it doesn't keep on happening!
