Cannot Connect Eurovox ex5000 to Laptop

I have been trying to connect my Eurovox ex5000 pvr to my Laptop but it will not connect. I have bought a USB to RS232 converter and have got a null modem cable to connect and also downloaded the Vista driver, but when I run the UFL and try to upload the channels to my PC it only gets to 9% recieving and then just stops, and sometimes just says 'recieving 0%'. Any help would be really appreciated...!!!

i think that could have something to do with box not pc, happened to a friend but worked on other box's
