    eurovox 1000 comms problem

hi am new to this, but i have had ago, but i had to bang my head a few times.
i have brought a new null cable, not sure how to check to see if it is the correct 1 ,on the box its marked up as one..but is there away u can check they all look the same ???
anyway i have loaded the driver software from the disc provided, to pc ,default com setting is 5, but my vox menu says 3, so i think this why they do not communicate with each other,. the pc only has 4 usb connections ,numdered comm 5,6,7 & 8. ..123 are used by something else, i am using vista on the pc , please how do i change the commms setting so that they are on the same wave length...is there anyone who knows the answer...please..... the problem is, i power up the 1000sl and all i get is the standby light ,nothing on the screen either, the box as been flashed before so i was exspecting a four digit coded to appear, but nothing, any ideas please....thanks.......(thanks sis for you help )

Tbh hounest m8,I think you should do more re-search.

The null cable should just go in your serial port (unless this box is different)

That would be Com1 as default.

Then your box should be com1

Not sure why you got a driver disc with your Null cable.

Also it has nothing to do with USB.

All the above could be wrong for this type of box. This is just a general thing.

Look here with regards to cables and Comm Port set up http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-eurovox-9786/
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer. - Douglas Adams

hi, my laptop does not have a serial port so you have to use a usb serial converter, hence the driver...so the only availble port left is the first usb, this has a default com5. the box only gives you a choice of comm 1 to 4 , so can you see my problem. cheers z

right mate heres how to sort it.. the reason your having your problem is cos ur using a generic serial port meaning ur using nul to usb right, so u have to assign the ip the port number you require. you do this by going to ''my-computer'' right click properties ''devise-manager'' then find the tab labeld networking or comm ports depending on ur os then your generic usb comm port should be visible click it . right somewhere on this properties menu it should say ''comm port- .... '' with a drop down menu with numbers on it..... change it to the one u require and hey presto youve assigned the port, hope this helps mat it differs slightly on different Operating systems but its generaly the same. you may still have a prob tho as i have tried using the usb and found it to be verry tempramental.......
            hope this helps ne ways
