    Max V 2008 Firmware Issues

    Guys,

    Can anyone shed any light?

Bought a eurovox max v 2008 for a friend and when trying to flash the latest firmware it gets to about 30/40 secs into writing then displays Err on the LCD and firmware never writes.

I have looked around and everything is pointing towards it being a real box doesnt seem to have any of the common give aways of a clone and does have the little reset switch on the main board.

I have flashed a lot of boxes in the past so its unlikely its something silly im doing wrong but any suggestions very much appreciated.

Does it send the file over to the box okay and it fails when doing the actual update, or is the transfer failing?
There does seem to be a few mentions on here of the upload failing half way thru with cloned boxes, even though the clones usually dont allow the transfer to start, or brick the machine at the very end.

As an addition, I too had flashed loads of boxes and had a Max V fail, and it turned out the old pc I was using had a temperamental serial port - used the same software and cable on a different pc and everything went ok

When i hit download it gets to 100% it then starts to "write" it also does this until about 40% where it craps out and gives Err on the LCD.

I even tried using the cable and connected it up to another Max V box i have but similar story, near the end it just gets Err on the box.

Rather frustrating as I think the company are unlikely to take the box back as essentially it does what they sold it for, FTA channels even tho we all know exactly what they are sold for.

Sometime when flashing the err message pops up but after a short time the Download success pops up.

If it getting 30-40% into the writing then crashing it appears to have a dead spot on the chip.

This may sound daft to you but try holding a hair dryer on the box for a minute then start the flash and keep the heat going into the box from the dryer.

Haha seriously? Whilst the cover is off i assume? Any particular part of the board or just move it about?

You think theres any chance it could be a clone? Ive had a look at a lot of comparison shots but the clincher seems to be the fact it has the reset on the mobo, whereas the clones dont.

Every symptom points to a clone - have you tried flashing the clone firmware ?

Max V has no clone safe Firmware RustyMG,

celticrobbo try the reset button on the board and then flash again.

Yeah i tried the reset button, still nothing

Whats the likelihood of getting a swap or a refund do you think? Like i said earlier, they could easily just feed me the line that it gets the FTA channels therefore it does what it was sold for and i wouldnt have much of an argument.

It matter not if you get FTA. If the firmware cannot be updated the box has a manufacturing fault.

The hairdryer thing is not a joke. I had a Starview that would only complete a flash if the board was kept warm while flashing.. A TV engineer said it was most likely a minor dry joint that would expand and make up with the heat.

Did you buy from a reputable dealer. I have a EX5000 that has a fault and I'm waiting for the dealer (Cable Daddy) to get back to me.
