Guys - I've had constant problems with connecting two different external USB drives (i.e. ones without their own power supplies). Constantly get the error message 'USB drive not found'. I''ve just bought an external hard drive cradle with its own power supply and Im going to test this out as Im convinced that you need to have a hard drive with its own power supply on this box. Will report my findings anyway!

I MYSELF BOUGHT A 1TB EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE FOR ?65.00 FROM TESCO AND IT WORKS A TREAT , MAKE SURE IT'S A PLUG AND PLAY HARD DRIVE. AND YOU CAN'T GO WRONG , LOADS OF RECORDING TIME ON . ALSO IF I'M RIGHT A 1TB IS JUST UNDER 1000 GIG.

Hi have just got the EX7000 and looking to install a usb hdd does the drive need to be powered ie 3.5" with external power supply or does the usb slot have enough power to run the non powered 2.5" external hdd's that are used to give extra storage on laptops.
    Regards

I have connected EX7000 via my freeview recorder to Tv using scart leads and hdmi cables. I find that I can record programs from cable via AV2 _AUX

So I have no need to purchase a new h/drive.
    Thanks guys for your assistance.

Ok thanks I did not know that.

I've had quite a lot of kit from Aldi, always been well satisfied. I may as well go there as well they may still have one in stock.
Just of interest, every time I have tried to sort fav's list (4 times) I end up having to re-scan again, normally I end up with around 240 chan's found, today out of curiosity I did the deep scan, ended up with 687 chan's found , lots of double and trebles. Too much back to the normal scan.
Also had v/media engineers van parked in the street today! don't half make ya think the worst. .

Sata or IDE? The ideal gb size the box will handle in regards the internal power supply.
Also do we know if the software for program timing, prog id?s etc is downloaded into the box already for use? Thanks.

I'm using a 500GB 3.5" Sata USB hard drive with its own power supply. If you want something powered through USB then go for a portable (2.5") hard drive. The size shouldn't make much difference to the power needs.

As for using the timer, you're better off doing it manually if you can because the box's EPG doesn't go very far into the future, so I never bothered trying to record from that.
