    5100 PVR

I have the above box, have had no trouble with it in the past, however on friday night it switched itself into standby which i assume was to do an update, now the signal is terrible on pretty much all of the channels. after doing a number of fast and deep scans Im contemplating setting it back to factory default. If i do this will i loose all the software off the box? or does anyone know how to resolve the problem without reseting the box?

    Thanks in advance

A factory reset wont delete the firmware, but it will delete your channel list.

Try it and powerscan again. Also check your cabling and splitter if you are using one.

I'll try a factory reset then, i've saved the channels through voxer so that's not a problem. Cheers

I've tried a factory reset, and changing both the cables and the splitter but still the same problem. It is now starting to really annoy me. The problem seems to be with the terestrial channels more than anything. Can anyone suggest anything else?

It seems updates have been installed and in doing so it's nakered it up.

So does that mean my box won't work now?? Or is there a way of undoing the update?? I already tried a factory reset with the powerscan and that didn't work. Only had my box a few months so i'm hoping it will come back to life very soon....

Did you try a factory reset and powerscan or did you use your CDF? If you have used your CDF, try a fresh powerscan direct from the incoming feed but do not use your saved CDF.

I did a powerscan after i did a factory reset. It doesn't seem to be as bad on the digital channels. does a factory reset clear any updates that might have been loaded onto the box?

Im not 100% that it was updates that did this, but mine has been working fine for months. here's hoping!

i did notice while i was doing a powerscan, that the signal strength for some of the channels was constantly up and down.

Sounds like a signal issue. Have you tried a variable attenuator or booster may be required.

Without knowing your level/quality its hard to know. Could you post what it is on the problem channels/TPs? Also carry out any initial scans from the direct incoming feed and make sure your cabling is sound.
