    Eurovox Ex7000 - Partition of 500gb HDD

    Hi

I have a 500gb external hard drive connected to my EX7000 box. When i try and record to it it looses all the channel signals. I have to turn it off then on again to reboot the box in order to get my channels to display again. Satsmo has suggested that I partition the drive into 2 250gb drives. Can anyone recommend a good partition tool that is not expensive. Or better still is there any freebie demos knocking around?

hi,windows as a basic one built in that should do the job.
otherwise the best are acronis disk director or partion magic.both you have to pay for unless you know where to look.
can you let me know how you get on mate cos i just got an ex7000 but didnt get around to a hard drive yet.
pm me if you need help with the software.

windows will only format to NTFS, Eurovox needs a FAT32. Download Swissknife you can find it on all the popular download sites. It's basic but free and formats to FAT32. If you have Vista though make sure you set it to compatability mode for XP or it won't work.

I am using a 500gb external harddrive with mine and it works fine on one partition, so I don't know why yours doesn't. Mine has it's own external power supply so that might have something to do with it I don't know.

i just tried a 160gb 2.5 inch drive in a caddie on usb power and it seems to be ok

          Thanks everyone

I already have converted my external HDD to fat 32. It has its own external power supply as well. Its a maxator basics 500gb if that makes any difference. It runs off one partition already. Its ok to pause live tv and then you can play it back. I cant seem to set it to record from the timer though. When i switch back to normal tv it looses the signal???Maybe the HDD is going to stand by mode and the Eurovox cant reactivate it???

Have you tried reformatting the drive? Or you could also try a reflash of the box and a factory reset after doing so.

I started off with a 500gb Maxtor Basics drive, formatted to FAT32. The Eurovox wouldn't recognise it. Once I'd partitioned the drive to 2 * 250Gb (I have Partition Magic) both partitions were recognised.

HOWEVER, I kept losing the channels: I would start a record, but it would fail: everything would freeze, and I'd have to reboot the machine and re-load the channels from a saved channels.tbn file.

I decided to try a different hard drive (a Sumo, one 500GB partition formatted to FAT32). The large partition is recognised without a problem, and I've not had any other problems. Recording, both using the PVR and using TimeShift, work flawlessly.

I've therefore concluded that my original problems were because of the Maxtor drive: either there's a compatibility issue, or the drive has a problem: either way, I'd recommend you use a different drive if you can get one, and see if that resolves your issues.

Do you mean reflash the firmware? Where would I find the factory reset?

Thanks for the advice. Its is recognising my 500gb drive ok. I can pause live TV and then press play ok. When I click on stop and goback to live tv thats when it says scrambled chanel. I then switch it off and on again and all the channels re-appear without having to rescan the box???? Where did you get your HDD from???
