EX7000 HD Hard Drive Problem

I have a problem with my EX7000 box losing the channel signal when I try and record to my Maxator Basics 500gb External Hard Drive. I have posted re this in the past and followed the following advice:- I have converted the drive to Fat 32 format and the EX7000 recognises the HD ok. When I pause live TV it records ok. When I press stop and then play it seems fine. When I try and user the timer function to record, the box freezes and then the channel says scrambled channel. I have tried partitioning the drive into 2 x 250gb but still the same problem. I have used the format command within EX7000 management tools and still the same problem. What I cant understand is why it works when I use the pause function and not the timer? Anybody got any suggestions? I have also tried reflashing the box, then formating the drive and still the same problem? Is it time to buy a different hard drive? If so can anyone recommend one and were they got it from as well? I am wondering if it something to do with the harddrive switching to standby mode after a while???? Please help me as I am wanting to record the Khan fight whils I am on Holiday.

I have seen and answered some of your other threads. The only other advice I can think of is to see if you could borrow a HDD before purchasing one and try it out.

Its increasing looking like a problem with your drive.

I have the same problem and I've tried FOUR different drives, 3x 1TB and a 320GB - still exactly the same problem - it is NOT a problem with the drives - I have tried FAT32, partitioned to various sizes - EVERYTHING.. It's to do with the fact that the EX7000 allows the drives to 'sleep' and when stepping into 'unattended' record mode, the drive isn't spinning and it tried to write to it IMMEDIATELY. As the drive isn't spinning the box 'crashes'.

Can someone post a solution HERE please? Stating that there are solutions elsewhere doesn't actually help, does it?

I heard that recording on a mains powered hard drive can cause these problems with freezing. Because of this I never used mains powered and I chose the Seagate 500GB FreeAgent Go Portable which I have had no problems with at all.

Try using a small pen usb drive just for a few mins and see if it works, if it works its using mains power that's the problem.

I'm using a Mains powered
320GB drive and have had no problems with mine.

Most of the posts i've read on here suggest there are more problems with usb powered devices rather than mains.

Are all the drives that you've tried completely empty? I stored some HD movies on my HDD for a week and it wouldn't connect whilst i had them on there...as soon as i deleted them it carried on working fine.

Finally I have it working - I'm using a 1TByte Buffalo Drivestation USB 2.0 external hard drive. It's the only drive that will work from information I've managed to glean from scouring the internet and it does work. Records from 'pause', instant record (regardless of length of time since it was last accessed) and 'timed' recordings. I had experienced many problems before this, including loss of all data 'usb drive not attached' and loss of all channel information.

I paid ?80 delivered for the drive and they're available in many places. Now I can record to my heart's content
