Do you have to keep legit box active?

Do you have to keep your legit box active?

ie. run two cables from a splitter off your incoming cable, one to the legit box and one to the 3ur0v0x box, and then keep the legit box on.

It's just the advice I have been given, assume it's incase a signal is sent down the line to check what you're running.

    Cheers guys

its advisable to because the legit box sends a signal back to vm its called talk back. so if there is talk back then you have no chance of them knocking on your door asking why it not talking back to them.

I have not had my Legit box running for over 3 years, told VM we dont watch tv only want BB & phone, however, they still send you a box as it comes standard in the package (free TV haha dont we know it).
I have no contact from them in any way shape or form over it.!!

i had my vm box disconected for two years and not a peep from vm, but now i have decided to use the splitter and let it talk back to them, best to be safe than sorry. also i change the channel number on the legit box from time to time to let them think its getting used.

Exactly, I say do what only needs to be done, as doing more always complicates things.

As per Ruggerplumber's post, my brother was in the exact same situation - he told them he had no intention of watching their tv (nudge nudge wink wink) and that he would put the box in a cupboard as he only wanted the phone line and broadband - he's never had a call from them in over 3 years, and if he does, he will tell them they are welcome to inspect the box but will have to lift off all the towels that are on top of it in the cupboard......

The tech who fitted ours was sound, I told him what I intended to do after sussing him out. He told me he could get me a box for ?110. I told him no.
He gave me some spare cable and "ended" it for me i.e. fitted it with the connections. He told me when I got my box to put my VM box in my room as VM often send a signal down, and it will keep them off my back. He said the only thing is if I have a problem with the internet or phone and I had to have a Tech out, I would have to bring the genuine box downstairs. That isnt a problem.
