the 5100 can have an internet hard drive (of a specific type/make, seagate i think) but the 7000 also supports an external usb drive. main difference is HD with upscaling on the 7000

The 7000HD is a new box and still having some minor problems, support is good although limited. It supports an external HDD and the picture quality is excellent but there is only a handfull of HD channels on cable so far.

The 5100, is not HD but the picture is clear and sharp. This supports an internal HDD(80/120GB. Seagate is best for this box)
The flashing/programming is straight forward with auto sort channels and pleanty of support.

          Hi m8,
Look in the downloads section and then Eurovox section, it explains how to do the update for your box.
Its best to use a USB pen to update this receiver.

            Hi,

Am due to receive my Eurovox EX5100 PVR tomorrow. I'm also new to all this so will let you know how I get on with it. Would have gone for the 7000hd myself but don't have a HD tv yet to watch it on!

That must be a small hand ! 1 HD channel
The EX7000 is an overrated overpriced box imho (although it looks nice!), if a pvr is a must then go for the 5100 but remember these eurovoxes are only single tuner so you can only record a channel thats on the same transponder as the one your watching which will limit your choice to 2-8 channels most of which you would never watch

YES you are right m8, only 1 channel at the minute!
To me its not worth the money for what you actually get!

                  ex51000 or ex7000

Guys wondering if anyone can help with the all mighty decision. I am currently debating which box to go for of the two above.

I really like the ex7000 HD+ looks and what i've read about it, however some people also mention that the encription will change next year and we may not be able to use this box. Is this true?

will this be the same for ex5100?

                  thanks for any advice

M8, the new encryption n3 is being rolled out right now and your area could be next. Dont think free tv will last as long as next year and all these cable boxes will be dead soon. Loads of areas have already been hit with the new encryption.
Dont waste your money, look into satellite set up and a box capable of C/S.

Thanks for your reply M8 really appreciate it.
Is satellite set up and a box capable of C/S free then? where can i get a box capable of C/S.

You've already probably gathered by now, I am a complete novice in this area. We've just moved to a cable supply area and trying to invest money into things that would last.

                      cheers.

You will need to search google for C/S. we cant talk about C/S on here.
Look into receivers like Dream box, spiderbox, protek some are easy to set up others are a bit more difficult. With C/S you will in most cases have to pay a fee to log on to a server.
