Eurovox 5100 and 160 Gb hard drive installation

Hi - got a Seagate Momentus 160 Gb drive and partitioned it with a FAT32 partition and hidden unallocated bot for rest and tried that in the 5100, but it's sitting there in standby with "----" on the display. Seems to work when disk is out, does this mean it is not at al happy with the drive?? Have not seen this mentioned on the forum at all having searched through a lot of posts. Others seem to have 160 Gb formatted to 120 Gb OK working - pins are seated OK (took lid off to check!). Any ideas???

When we had a EX5000, i fitted a new hard drive without doing anything to it. The Eurovox has its own file system, so i think that formatting it is not needed. Also if you were to remove a hard drive from a Eurovox that had movies recorded onto it, and connected it to a pc, you WILL wipe the hard drive clean..hope this helps

m8, I think this box only takes a maximum of 120GB HDD.
I have both the 80 & 120gb HDD and have no problems at all.
You cannot remove the HDD and insert in into a PC to watch recorded programmes as this will wipe it clear.

Sorry, meant to say had partitioned with one 120 Gb partition and the other 40 Gb hidden, wasn't planning on trying to see files from Eurovox on PC. Might have to get a "proper" 120 Gb drive

If its not working as you have set it up then its a no no.
If you do get another dont format it, just push it in and hopefuly all will be OK.

Hi - thanks for feedback folks, will get a smaller one and try that, ?might be firmware difference between 5000 and 5100 that makes using drive bigger than 120 Gb with hidden partition difficult??

            regards

M8, have a go using this softwa*e to partition your HDD.
Is worked on the 7000HD box so it MAY work for you too.
              Problem is its for XP.

Hi - tried that and the freeware Easeu partition manager which seems very good, but neither worked; put 160 gb in laptop and tried the 30 Gb Hitachi from laptop, but still 4 dashes! Will get Seagate drive and try that, since box seems quite fussy. Thanks for the help though, will let you know how I get on with a Seagate small one

Eventually got a new ST9120822A off eBay which was being sold for Eurovox 5000 and 5100 - ?58. Arivved within days in foil-wrap (note pic on eBay is wrong and pins do not have plastic shroud as shown); plugged it in switched on and within about 2 min I could record so all is well, and a display of - - - - does not indicate machine has been killed! Also seemed that it seemed to record one channel, yet you can view others by using the up-down arrows, which I though you couldn't since there aren't two tuners?? Maybe I was doing something wrong!!

Good to hear that u are all sorted m8.
U can record one channel and watch another, aslong as both channels are on the same transponder.
