    Replacement Eurovox 1 IR controller

As anyone purchased a replacement EV1 controller that works?
If so, where and how much?

I ordered one for 9.95 from AV UK limited.
It arrived without any instructions (it does have a 'mode button' + various others.
    Model IRM 1290

After putting batteries in I tried it. It appears to do nothing more than light up a red led.
I tried pressing the various mode/tv/sat buttons, all resulting in the same lack of any other external effect.

I immediately Emailed AV UK limited but received no reply. Before writing this, I emailed again (saying I was going to post in the forums)and got a replay asking for invoice and controller number details, which I sent. After 5 days - no further response.

My experience appears to suggest avoiding this company.

I have seen the numerous max controllers, but this specifically claimed 1/2 compatibility.

Was given the EV1 so may simply chuck it rather than throw good money after bad, as cant seem to scan channels or anything without a controller, and the universal I have won't touch it.

but if nothing else, hopefully this will serve as a warning to others who otherwise may waste money with this supplier.

I have asked around to try to find someone with a controller so my universal can learn, but not found anyone yet.

I have read on other forums about this supplier but if you load a cdf into your box then no need to scan you can still use the box via buttons you could even cut down a cdf with only the good channels on it to make button pressing easier

That is one option I had considered, but Thanks for suggesting it.
I'll have a look see if I can find a CDF I can download and edit.

                  Update
After sending a second follow-up Email when I starting the post here saying that I saw there was no change in their (lack of) response, they did send me a reply (LOL) saying that if I sent it back, with a copy of the invoice, they would refund me.

Seems like the Chinese crap sellers on Ebay who knowingly sell crap and then insist you return as:
Most won't pay to send it, its not worth it
It you send it without registering the delivery (cost) it 'never gets there'
By the time you have covered your costs in returning it, registered, you actually get little of your money back for your efforts, and the evidence is gone.

Definitely a company to avoid : AV UK Limited

As a related issue, is it possible to control the box (like with the remote) via the serial connection connected to a PC?
