    EX7000 HD - Will it ever be able to record HD via an update?

    Hey again,

    Just wondering if anybody knows if this box will ever be able to record HD content such as BBCHD, I have heard that it eaither won't record ("recording error") or records in a jumpy manor? Is this likely to be improved because it seems strange for a HD box with a PVR facility not to be able to record HD?

    Cheers

      Really? Thats interesting, because I guess I have the opposite, the EPG is fine for me, responsive and reliable but if I try to record BBC HD it just gives a recording error.

      I can't see the suggestion about the HDMI cable making much difference as that surely shouldn't have anything to do with recording, but in any case it's a fairly decent cable.

      I have tried recording BBC HD with a USB HDD and 8GB USB stick with no luck.

      Am using the latest firmware as well btw (March 09) what firmware are you using?

        Hey,

        Just an update on this

        I flashed back to the previous firmware and the HD recording started to work, so I then decided to re-flash to the latest firmware and this solved the problem. Don't know if this has something to do with needing to use the older firmware first or that the original firmware flash went slightly wrong, in any case this problem is resolved..sorry if I confused anybody

            Hey,

            Yeah I flashed back to the 22nd of January, tested it to find it working and then re-flashed back to the Latest (March) firmware and it worked a treat

            Interesting that I am now not alone in this issue...let me know how you get on

              It didnt work for me

              Quick run down of what ive done;

              Got nice new EX7000 about one month ago, and put march firmware on it all is great apart from jumpy HD recording.

              I have tonight rolled the firmware back to the Jan 22nd one, and still have jumpy HD recording!!

              did you do a full factory reset befor you rolled it back to Jan 22nd?

              I did not and wonder if this could be the problem?

              Did you have any earlier firmware on your box befor the 22nd?

                Hey,

                No I didn't do a factory reset and no the march 09 firmware was the first one I put on.

                It does seem however that your particular problem was slightly different to mine...I had a recording error which prevented it from recording at all on BBC HD, whilst you seem to be suffering from jumpy recordings. Having tested recording on two USB stick since getting it to work, I can tell you that I also experience jumpy recording via a USB stick, but not via A USB hard drive.

                Are you recording to a USB memory stick? If so, I think this is your problem. I don't think many memory sticks will be capable of writing at a fast enough rate to cater for HD recordings, which will therfore cause an error. If this is the case it might be worth trying a USB Hard drive to see if that makes any difference?

                Cheers

                  Ok, i see your point.

                  Ive tryed using a 1gb usb stick, and a Freecom 40gb usb powered mini hard drive both have jumpy HD recording.

                  Is your hard drive mains powered perhaps the EX7000 psu is my problem!

                    I am actually using one of these drives, which doesn't need an external power supply and works fine by drawing power from the Ex7000:

                    [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-Passport-Essential-Portable/dp/B0012IAA8G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1247657030&sr =8-1]Western Digital My Passport Essential 320GB USB: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo[/ame]

                    Did you see any difference in the recordings between the 40gb hard drive and the 1gb stick?

                    The only thing I can think is that both drives are not quite up to scratch and if recordings were a little better on your 40gb drive in comparison to your 1gb memory stick then that wouls support the theory?

                    Cheers
