What purpose do codes serve?

I realise discussing / sharing c*des is against the rules, and I'm not asking where they can be located.

With that said what is the purpose of these c*des? If my firmware is out of date will these serve as a temporary solution?

As you can see I'm pretty new so bear with me.

yes the codes from keymaster or chatterbox will get you going but they can roll many times perday or week so you have to keep putting them in if you update your firmware you dont have to do them
