eurovox 5100 PVR firmware flashing problem

I am havng difficulty downloading the firmware to my eurovox 5100 PVR. I hav aready done a basic set up and got all the basic channels.
I am trying to download the firmware and the box either constantly resets itself, or occasionaly it will start downloading, but never gets past 1% or 3%. I have followed the sticky guides, and tried switching the box on and off either before or after pressing the download button but nothing seems to work.
I have just bought the box last week and it is not a clone.
Any help would be appreciated

Which operating system are you using and are you using a USB adapter with the null modem cable?

I initially tries it wth Vista and a null modem and USB to RS232 adapter. This would not even recognise the USB connection.
So I got a second laptop using WIndows XP and the USB null modem cable is recognised.
I have followed the sticky guide, and the point where it should read "version 2.0 detected" it tends to flash between this and "com 4" on the screen. If I click dowload when the "version 2.0 detected" is on the screen then it starts to download and "dnld" flashes on the box, but it just never does anything. It might immediately start and say 1% but then nothing else.
Any suggestions, I just get the feeling it is something simple !
