How do I know my cable is 'live?'

    Hi all, newbie here!

I live in a block of flats and my mate and I have the EX1000SL.

I lives on the first floor and he gets most channels using the new firmware.

However, in my house I can't seem to get any channels. I scan on 2 frequencies but my quality of signal fluctautes at 8% average.

On one of the frequenies I am trying the top bar (in the search thingy) it goes from 8% to 98% (green) but on the bottom bar it goes from 8% to 32% (red).

    So waht y'aal think?

    Many thanks.

Ok, so I check the wire on my TV, so I guess I'm disconnected.

How do I get connected again? Virgin (on their website) say the do no do my area, but my mate is live?

How can I get in to the green box outside my flats?

      Have you tried a hammer?

      How is the box locked?
      Did you examine it?
If you take a couple of pics and show me them I might be able to point you in right direction.

I tried a set of long nose pliers but I think mine wern't thin enough! They all seem to be a standard thickness.

              Here's a proper pic:

\should have rotated the picture 90 anti clockwise.

I wouldn't advise you to break into any VM box or cab. To check if your cable is live plug your coax directly into the back of your TV and if you get channels 1 to 5 it's live.

If not then tell them your mate has a live connection in the same flats. Then ask them for the basic sub at least then you are assured of a live connection.

Does that mean my 'Fplug to fplug' - This plugs/screws into the white box at the wall right, to my old pace/NTL box right? .... So can I plug this into my TV and I should get channel 1-5?

If your connection is live yes. A coax connection from box to TV will do.

I have recently brought a F plug to F plug cable, to go from the wall (ntl box) to my virgin box is this the right cable ? (Waiting for my virgin replacement box to come on monday).

So I've opened it (didn't break it) but there's so many wires and only a few are marked! How the hell do I find my one?

                              I got it working.

Connected the box and then used a multi-meter to check the voltage in the green box.

                              Mans rolling!
