Hey ppl,
I been told I need to Jtag my EV slimline.
I dont know much about jtagging and havn't got the faintest on where to start.
Sorry if its been asked before and Im sure it has;

Can anyone run me though process of how to Jtag an EX1000SL or is there a tut on here.

I'v had a wee look aroud on here but couldn't find much.
It would b much appreciated.

Who told you to J-tag box, was it an experienced member on a forum,
or just someone you met at the BUS-STOP.
Come back here with a few details before you look at a J_TAG
Are you getting RED or BLUE light when plugged in??????
If not check power at socket & check fuse & lead are OK
Does LED change from RED to BLUE on command from remote ????
If it does hit menu on remote, check scart if menu not on TV screen.
If LED does not respond to remote, replace batteries with NEW ones
To test remote ; Point at lens of mob. phone camera,hit any key,
LED should flash on mob. phone screen.
If unsure about remote try at friends house, It will work with 1000/5100
Report back your findings & lemons will counsel you

u want the lowdown on the problem with the box, well here goes......

I was rescanning box and half way through, accidentaly disconnected it from mains. When I turned it on again it was showing over 1000 channels but the names of all the channels showed something like: @4477?F&H45$H65$... and they were all locked.

So I unlocked 1 to see what they were, as soon as I did that the box froze.

Now when I switch it on from mains, the red light (STANDBY) shows , then after a few seconds the blue light (ON) shows but there is no pic just black/blank screen. Can't change channel, volume or turn it off/on via remote. The Blue light always stays on, like its frozen.

Tried flashing it but as son as I plug box into mains the BLUE LIGHT comes on and stays on and box wont interact with PC and flash.
Remote seems fine, fuse also ok.

Could tuner have gone, is box bricked, has it got virus/trojan or is it totaly dead?
....is the next step to JTAG?

If your electricity prov. went down I would have sympathy for you
But accidentally disconnecting from mains is not good enough.
If the child done that her arse would be kicked
When you still had access to menu, A factory reset would have sorted the box out. I take it you no longer have access to menu on box.
Assuming this to be the case, you haven't much to lose.
There is FTA firmware in 4share for 1000sl, worth a try.
I will print tutorial re. flashing at foot of this post. READ IT.
When flashing FTA firmware to box use socket or ext. lead with switched outlet. Don't power up box
Hit d/load on loader & while loader is trying to detect box HIT switch on
socket outlet ON .
If not detected HIT on/off repeatedly pausing between ON & OFF to see
if box has been detected.
After 10 attempts giv it up
Next option; Start d/load & power-off P.C., Immediately RE-BOOT.
3rd option; Discard USB to 9-pin lead +use NULL MODEM 9-pin only
For this you will need D/top or old P.C. with 9-pin com port.
I have flashed several boxes with 9-pin that just would not take flash
using USB to 9-pin lead.
Final desp.measure; SEEK AID OF LEMONS.

You could ask Satsmo his opinion on it, as I have my doubts about it's
authenticity. Or you could P.M. author for advice as he used it.
TUTORIAL RE> FLASHING ANY BOX.
This is for Novices & Lemons (both)
STEP 1
Clear room of all women,children,cats,dogs, & imbeciles.
If above categories include you GET OUT & let someone else do it.
STEP 2
Place box remote out of reach, & avoid contact with any leads
These precautions prevent any disturbance during flash.
STEP 3
Before you begin make sure you have correct loader & firmware

What programme do i need to open and view these files?

Downloaded them but computer cant open them up as it says it needs to know which programme created them!!

As B/apple says use Winrar & ignore requests to buy licence.
Have you exhausted all other options re. reviving 1000sl.
The punishment for your misdemeanour is indeed harsh, but you are
unlikely to re-offend.
I've had a look thru those J-tag files, they are all old, & the 1000sl is only
around since Sept.09.
I'm no expert, but any box I've J-tagged the files were set-up for 1 model
only, like SVU1 had j-tag bundle & SVU2 had different j-tag bundle.
With all due respects Khany, if you had to ask how to open files have you competance to undertake a J-tag.
You could post your general location here with a request for help.
I'm sure a nearby member would offer to j-tag your box for you.

Buy new 1000sl & you have old box for spare parts.????????

with all due respect Im no expert as u'v probably gatherd, but Im here to learn.... if u good people got the patience to point me in the right directions....hey, we all gotta start somewhere right!!... and if the box is gonna get used as spares then theres no harm in giving it a go. I alredy resigned my self to getting a new box, probably a DREAMBOX 500C but gonna give it a go and if it works then even better. U kno.... recession.....keeping an eye on the wallet....and all that.

but in my defence im using a netbook with few programmes and all it said was can't open file... if thats any defence.

Not attempted flashing yet, as dont have null-usb cable, only got standard null modem cable and mate has pc with correct ports and he been busy.... gonna try it tomorrow/weekend..... but if I can remember right, we kinda tried your suggestions...to no avail.... but will give it another shot to b sure!!!

BUT IS BOX LIKELY TO B SORTED IF JTAG'D....U COME ACROSS SIMILAR SITUATION B4?

Is the DREAMBOX 500C a good choice?
OR is it living on borrowed time and there a better option around??
....taking the price into concideration.

You havin' trouble sleepin' , Khany.
Dream, in my feeble opinion, is best box around. Because it's linux tuner
it will be going strong when all cable-tuner boxes are being stripped for
scrap. Dream500 are cloned, but quality seems OK. Genuine Dream
600; 725; 800; etc are excellent, but a bit pricey for lot of people.If used
to their full potential gen.Dreamboxes are excellent value.
Best cable box,by far; EUROVOX 5100pvr
Best value cable box ; Digivox XL USB
You have to make your own mind up about technical back-up.
So far KREEPVU are way ahead with cable box fixes.
Dream fix for Nagra 2 was slow to public, but geeks had it since last
Nov.(4 months before was needed). So my advice; get a dream and
join your local Geeks Dream-Club.
That money you plan to spend on j-tag kit could be given to local DK
member to do the j-tag. If he/she refuses payment it could be donated
to DK.

Have a look thru Sen. members profiles, some will have their location
listed in their profile. P.M. them fur help. If you get someone to j-tag box
try to be there & watch. It's a very interesting process. I only ever j-tagged
boxes when there was no other alternative. Nearly all were STVU 1 clones
Some failed too. You have to know what each error code means as some
errors are not critical & other errors which are can be rectified.
The 1000sl is fine when it's working & you can find remote, You're 3-0 up with the sun on your back & the other side are down to 10 men.
It's the last box you would want to be force-flashing or j-tagging.
When designing 1000sl they basically stripped MAX-V to the bone &
only put back enough bits to get box up & running. This gave a lovely
sleek elegant looking box. Sadly there are bits missing you would
rather have.Power Switch on boxes is a great aid to force on flash.
LED display on boxes displays code to denote specific errors. I will
make a few enquiries & P.M.you later.
