flashing the eurovox ex5100

Been trying to flash my ex5100 for days now and just keep hitting problems as im not too great with all things tech..Hooked it up to my computer using usb to serial converter and downloaded the drivers etc but when i try to download the firmware it keeps saying something about the port. I have tried to change the port assignment but to be honest im getting lost. Any help would be gratefull...Andy

are you using a null modem cable or a serial cable
