    eurvox 1000 problem

I have recently bought a SE Eurovox SL and have tried following the information on this site to flash it. However I am struggling to complete the process. When I switch the box on there are no numbers or dashes on the front, so I have no idea whether the box is ready to receive a download.

I have got the two cables I require and I think have installed the driver but my laptop could not recognise that the driver was on the disc that had come with the usb - serial converter cable.

When I press the download button afte running UFL_EX1000SL_24_02_09_DarX (box in standby) I get a screen titled Firmware download version 2.00 then COM3... and underneath a 'start' button. On clicking the button I get another screen saying receiver not detected and buttons allowing me to choose com1 - com2 - com3 - com4
I have tried choosing all the options. They all say com port not found except com3. On pressing ok with com3 I get a waiting for receiver message however nothing happens. I have tried turning the box on at this point to no effect. I have seen in the guide that I should use com1 and how to change it however I hae no iddea how to do it in Vista because there is no Port option in device manager.

The eurobox can get all the channels but a lot are scrambled, this is why I have tried putting on the latest firmware.

Any help would be most appreciated especially if I need to use com1. I don't understand coms and ports and certainly not how to change them in vista.

It's either one of the following:

    1) USB to Serial cable drivers.
    2) Not a Null Modem cable but a straight serial cable.

Your problem more than likely lies with the USB to Serial drivers, you need to load them even if it means downloading new ones from the net.

i had similair problems with this box.
firstly to change a port you need to go to device manager and select ports.
on there select your device, then once in, right click and gp to properties.
once in there go to port settings then click on advanced. you can change the port number in there.

the thing was i was able to update firmware on any other box using the usb / serial method but mines was not allowing for the ex1000 to accept. the cable did find the box but didnt allow to update.

i bought a pci serial card and fitted it, hooked up the box and it accepted the firmware first time.

i think that these ex1000 do not like the usb method but a direct serial

        Thanks for your reply.

The null modem cable came with the box so I am presuming that is ok.

The USB to Serial cable drivers came with the cable however when I plugged in the cable my laptop could not recognise the drivers so I got it to look on the internet. I am useless with this sort of thing but do I need to put the drivers into a directory somewhere or will vista do it automatically.

Thanks very much for your advice

          Forgive my ignorance
Would I have to get a serial card specific for my laptop?
How easy is it fit and setup a serial card ?

          Cheers

you need a USB to RS232 serial adapter... they are cheap and easy to find.. they are not specific to any make model of laptop.... one size fits all etc etc...

Thanks I really appreciate your reply.

Is a USB to RS232 serial adapter the same as a pci serial card and if I got one are they easy to set up?

yeah its the same thing, accept when you say 'pci card' it general refers to a PC adapter and not a laptop adapter... what version of windows you have installed on your laptop and have you tried any of the drivers listed in this thread...>>>>> http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...adapter-21347/
