Eurovox ex5000 pvr....clone?

Hi. Just got my hands on a eurovox ex5000. Pretty sure it needs flashing but want to check if its a clone before doing so. What visual checks are there so i dont brick it? If it is a clone what options do i have? Thanks in advance

have a look through the slits on the top and try and see if there is a silver heat plate on the processer if there is then its a fair bet its a clone and if you do brick it everything you need to get it up and running is on this forum all you need to bye is a eurovox jtag

Cheers for the reply. Had a good luck but not really sure what u mean by heat plate. What i think is the processor is central and towards the back.....is that correct? I can see a groved silver cover over what i think is the processor. Is there another way i can tell if ive got a clone??

ex5000 ---- 0000 0001 3031????

hi still not sure if my box is a clone but when i turn it on it comes up with four dashes (----). after a short while this turns to the time 12:00. when i switch the box on i can get four 0000 or 0001 and ive also got 3031.....anybody got any ideas whats going on? shouldi just try to flash it with the latest firmware and hope for the best?

with the silver plate on the processor i would say it's a clone you can try the 1/12/08 firmware thats what i used after jtaging a clone dont use the nosort firmware it can brick your box

ive just flashed the box using 24/02/09 DarX firmware (before reading your reply) and it said successful. hooked it upto my tv and now its not turning itself off or anything like that anymore. ive got 0001 on the fromy of eurovox display and my tv is showing enter pin and the usual 4 spaces to enter the pin. is the pin 0000? problem is i cant enbter it as the remote isnt communicating with the box. from what ive told you do you think the flash has worked?

try and reflash with the 1/12/08 firmware by the way you will only confuse members by double posting

i think the pin is 1004 or 1007

hello again

was experiencing some progress with the box until just a moment ago. heres where im at -
flashed the box with version 24/02/09. transfered a cdf file thats correct for my area. (i know this as i have a eurovox max v also) the box was saying "no or bad signal". this cant be correct as my max v shows 83%. did a fast install scan anyway as all menu functions appear and work. no channels were found. tried older firmware, 01/12/08 and did a scan and put a cdf file on. same thing appeared "no or bad signal".
thought id give newer 24/02/09 firmware (used autosort firmware) a go again. that installed successfully. hooked it up to my tv. the box powered up as normal and still said "no or bad signal". then the box wouldnt communicate with the remote so i turned it off and back on but nothing appeared at all. nothing on the tv nothing on the box itself. have i bricked it? if i have am i able to bring it back to life?? thanks in advance
