    Eurovox 5100 Signal help

    Hi all

Ok you are my last resort

    Here is my problem,

    Bought a Eurovox 5100
    Flashed with latest firmware
noticed that before i start the scan for channels that my signal bar is going crazy

It jumps from 0% to 20% to 80% to 15% to 80% to 0% (you get the idea)

whatever i do i cannot get a steady signal
    tried all the usual stuff
    Tried a signal booster
    Tried an attenuator
    tried with splitters
    tried without splitters
tried plugging it in at the front of the house, (no extension cables used)

and for the life of me i cant get a steady 80% ish signal
tried the box at a friends and its fine there, signal solid at 86% so it has to be something to do with the feed into my house, so i even rang virgin media and started paying for the basic package to make sure a signal was being sent, virgin media box works fine but still eurovox gets the signal error

as i said you are my last resort, if i cant fix it from this forum i am afraid i will have to accept that it just wont work

Please please if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated

if you need any more info just ask

    (Bolton Area)

    Thanks
    Dale

Hi m8 you say that you have tried a booster is that the booster that comes with the firmware or a externel one if it's the latter it could be faulty
if i helped hit the thanks btn

I've been having the same problems with my 3 eurovox's virgin have been around several times now to fix "faults" on the service every time find everything spot on, can't for the life of me get it working properly any more but it used to work for over 4 months perfectly. Tried everything everyone has suggested all with no joy, id pay someone if they could fix the damned thing.

                Hi

Thanks for the advice but i tried that already

I don't think there is a setting or a scan that i have not tried to be honest

like i say if i take it to a friends and set it up there and do a scan the signal stays solid at 86% and they live on the same street so its just trying to stabalize my signal somehow

Getting to the point of giving up

When i got the box i bought 3 of them
                1 for me
1 for my mum and dad
                1 for my sister

mums and sisters are perfect and mine works at theirs so it has to be my feed into the house but what ?

The original virgin box is fine so how can the signal be messed up if that works ?

                ARGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Swap 1 of the other 2 boxes over and that will eliminate box problems. Then concentrate on your coax cable (change) from your feed to your box.You could also make a cdf file from 1 of the working boxes
and upload it to your box.

                    HI

                    Thanks for the advice

                    Already tried that,
My box works fine at their house
and i have tried different cables
apart from connecting it outside the house where the cable comes in to the brown ntl box thing there is nothing more i can do

Where did you place the booster?
have you checked all your cables for damage and sharp bends?

                        setup is like this

                        (Ntl outside)------------Booster-------eurovox

tried 3 different cables and still the same so unless its something wrong underground i cant find any faults

but again if there was a line fault why would the subscribed virgin media box work perfectly ???

everything points to it being the line but then the virgin box should also not be working but it is

The only other thing i can suggest is that you open up the VM cable box outside and check that the connections are all tight and the same with the box inside the house.

The original VM boxes have much better tuners and are able to handle lower signal.

One more thing, when you turn on the CC box, do you notice a little light that flashes?

Other thing you can do is phone VM and say that on some channels(ones you pay for)have a bad quality picture and they will boost the signal from their end. try it m8 you never know.

Hmmm this gets stranger by the day

Okay i took your advice and Virgin said they would boost the signal at there end

So reflashed the box, factory reset and went to the channel scan page

Signal between 80-90% for over 20 mins so i thought great its fixed, i mean the signal was still very twitchy but not dropping below 80%

so off it went and found some channels (not all but some)

and then same thing again, most channels saying bad or no signal and the strangest thing is that now when i go back to the scanning page the signal is all over the place again

tried the booster and splitters again to no avail

I really really dont know what to do
