    Eurovox pvr 5100 and virgin

    Hi Guys

I'm new to this whole scene so thought I would sign up in the hope to gain some knowledge

So I have just bought myself the pvr5100 and have a few questions. Once I have got the box and flashed it it is true that I need to keep my existing box connected as well as connecting the eurovox. I believe this is the case and so have bought the splitter

Also once I have flashed the box, how often if at all will it need to be flashed if at all.

Also it says that only specific HD's will work , is there somewhere I can find a list of these?

    thanks in advance dude

howdy, you can ditch the v/media box if you like, you dont even have to subscribe to the tv pack, all you need is the broadband feed, eurovox self updates, firmware twice a year maybe, hope this helps.

Hi m8 welcome to the forum it's advisable to keep your vm box on standby so it can talk back to vm and you will not have to reflash your box untill vm hit them again you will need a hd box to receve hd channels (ex7000hd box) re the post above it's best to pay for a minimum package it keeps the wolves from the door

        thanks for the info guys

I have bought a cable splitter so do I just attach the cable feed to both boxes but then only have one hooked up to the tv.

No bothered about HD as I don't have a HD tv so would be no point.

Anyone know what hard drives the pvr 5100 takes, I read somewhere it is laptop harddrives. Is this true? DO you have to format them?

Dead Right -- just leave the VM box only connected to the feed [no scarts!]

Hardly worth paying ?180 for 6 channels [and not very good ones at that]

Yep the small Laptop Drives -- MAXIMUM size 120 gig... You can format it with the box

Welcome to DK -- lots of Good Guys who will help you get up and running [as they did me ]

thanks again for the quick response, well just have to wait for it to arrive now

Have read over a few threads so far so hopefully should know what I am doing by the time it arrives.

Got a few old laptops lying around so might pull the hard drive out of one of them and give that a go

alright mate the best hard drive for you is the seagate 120gb about 40 quid off flea bay. there is some recording issues with this box, so its best to always keep a five minute recording permanenly stored on the hard drive(it just works better) also be advised that when you try to record for the first time onto the hard drive it may take up to 5 minutes to actually start recording.

i have 1 of these boxes and make sure you dont fill the hard drive, the less you got on the quicker it will record because when you have at least 50% on it then it will take atleast a couple of mins to start recording again so beware just incase you mis the begining of something you want to record.

I have my VM box piggy backed with my other box on a two way splitter,as chic advises VM send signals down the cable to your VM box and it talks back to VM,your "fta" box does not.

Is your EPG stopping at Midnight as well?? I.e. not auto updating

Suggest you re-flash the Firmware first.............
