5100 goes to standby

hi from my shed

can any one tell me why the 5100 pvr goes to standby at midnight and I cant stop it doing it

its getting annoying is there a software update i can get?

wife says I should be shot so am now more in the shed than usual

have you tried taking your harddrive ouy m8 to see if thats the problem.

why would it be the HD ?

Right I have just pulled the HD from my 5100 and its been on about 4 hours and the dam things glowing hot, as a computer engineer,,,, this is not good

i know its supposed to time shift but only runs when pause is pressed not constantly as is the case here

I would assume this is why the drive is freezing on reboot

As everything nowadays is repeated 100 times and them that arnt are on an Iplayer somewhere I will not bother with the drive and get a recordable DVD

I now feel I am loosing my mind

after the burnt hand with the hard drive, i pulled it from the device screaming and let it cool i switched on the 5100 and all worked as before.

i ran the drive through a caddy and made it Raw .... as new out of the box open format.

scanned the drive with my software and all was fine good drive no problems.

switched off the 5100 refitted the drive reboot and left it.

IT DIDN'T SHUT DOWN LAST NIGHT

have recorded on it, it all works fine

apart from the 3 code updates this week that's it.

if all the problems are with the HD has anyone else suffered the same problem

the dam things been working fine for 2 days , except when it lost all the text on the program guide. any way recorded a program last night, Fine, then it went to stand by at midnight

rigth so from what i can gather the problem is with the HDD.
With me being a noob at this sort of thing could you PLEASE run throught what you did to solve the problem.

well another day and its still on

looks like it will close down when you have or its completed a recording cant stop it nothing in the OS to do it.

if you switch off at the back and wait a few seconds then re boot it looks like it will stay on, however: if you switch to standby it wont come back on with out a full reboot, still haven't got my head around that one, but that only happens when the HDD is fitted, its fine otherwise.

to cure the shut down problem at midnight.

the fault is the HDD, I put the drive in a caddy and used Eurosoft software to check and test the drive, then made the disc RAW as new out of the factory with the same software.

switched off the 5100 and put the HDD back in, re boot the 5100.

now it span up the drive but no way did it format it, it wasn't long enough so how it decides what and where to put information who knows, but it does.

so far i have recorded then deleted what i had on it and it hasn't shut down only if i record and dont watch it before midnight then it does, weird

the Linux based operating system it, I have been told has, must have more bugs than ant hill

i will endeavour to produce a fix for the standby problem, but as a member said "keep it switched on" i say what about the planet

could the shut down be due to the program guide?

i have noticed the seven day program guide is about 4 hours in reality and when it gets confused it goes to standby

I have tried everything i know and a little bit more.

I believe its the firmware i need a good programmer to fix it and thats not me, some of my mates who are said they will take a look, me untill a fix is done i will live with it.

My shed is getting cold the nights are drawing in and i will now get drunk

Think on this

if the program your watching is on a channel that shuts down at night ie bbc3 why the next day is the device on standby?

if you put it on say sky 1 its remains on

i love to be confused

i just now say blow it and reboot it every day

i dont know if it would record say over two or three days havent tested that bit ,,,,,,,, but i reccon it wont so use this as a day recorder and thats it.

if you have an external HDD or DVD recorder use that for multi recordings

i have had to move out of the shed cause its getting cold..... now have to talk to the wife ,,,,,,,,,,,
