What is N3?

Hi all,

I have read some threads from Ireland regarding N3 or NAG 3 and loss of channels. It might seem thick but what is this? Will it effect England (West Midlands)?

I am considering buying a new box 7000HD - but don't want to spend ?160+ if the box is useless in 6 months.

Any info gratefully recieved.

I believe it's the Nagra 3 encryption algorithm which is currently employed by some cable providers in NI.

As far as I'm aware Nagra 2 is the default here in the UK at the moment.

Nagra 2 has been cracked but Nagra 3 has not.

I have no idea if Nagra 3 decryption is being worked on or whether it will be compatible with current Eurovox boxes.

And I also have no idea if/when Nagra 3 will be employed here in the UK.
