hi m8, boxes like the EX5000 and the EX5100 take an INTERNAL laptop type HDD(120gb max) and boxes like the EX1100 and the EX7000HD take a EXTERNAL USB type HDD.

ex1100 is the latest box. If you want HD then go for the ex7000. Like badapple says choose whether or not you want an internal or are happy with an external hard drive then choose. There's no reason not to go for the ex1100 if you're happy with the external hard drive.

If you want the internal go for a ex5100, but get a bundle that includes a hard drive, as it only takes certain types and it saves you the bother of finding one.

Yes it is, Its a basic box, just like the ex1000, But the 1100 has a USB socket to attach a external HDD and firmware updating.
It will do the job m8. But if you want high def channels then its the EX7000HD.

I've purchased a EX7000HD + 320GB Hard drive. Should be delivered tomorrow or early next week.

I'm not really fussed about it being internal or external, as the HD aspect and upscaling was more of an issue for me.

I look forward to receiving mine and getting it flashed so i can compare it to my normal NTL box.
