I have a seagate 500GB FreeAgent Go Portable USB 2.0 external hardrive and it works fine so you should be ok. Mine has less memory than your choice obviously but I got it as it does not need power cable. I had to format to fat32 and could not do with swiss knife as I have vista. After some searching on internet I did find something vista compatible called EASEUS Partition Master 4.0 Home Edition which was free and did the job.

Hi everyone, how do I ue this EASEUS Partition Master 4.0 Home Edition to change to FAT32, I bought the some tesco external hard drive and I think it needs formatting, but I am lost on how to do it. Thanks, sorry it is the Western Digital Elements 1TB HD.

If it is a Western Digital Elements 1TB HD I am pretty sure it should come formated as FAT32 anyway. Hope you did not get ripped off as amazon do it at 62.99
I had trouble getting the hard drive to show on easeus at first and can't remember how I did. Once it did show it was showing under disc2 as disc1 was my hard drive for laptop. I clicked the drive to highlite it and then format on top toolbar was no longer ghosted. So I clicked on format then chose fat32 from drop down box and it was easy from that point on.
