    Exploded chip on ex1000sl??

    Hey guys,

Just wondering if any of you could take at a look at this picture. I took the lid off my ex1000sl to see if it was a clone (i dont think it is?) as i was having problems with no channel names (just TVCH1..TVCH2 etc) and jumpy pictures on all channels.

Anyway when i took the lid off i found this chip that seems to faulty. Its like a hard glue!

Does anyone know what this chip does and if it could be the cause of my problems??

    Thanks

I dont know what it is either but a search says it an (U304 - U306) P-CHANNEL JFET SWITCH

I have seen thing like this before on several PCB's,dont think its anything to do with your problem though, sounds to me you have a dodgy connection somewhere, it doesn't take much to upset these boxes ....

Everyone gets those TVCh things they seem to differ every time you update channels or whatever, sometimes there are a lot, sometimes just a few, its not happening on every channel is it ? surely you get some with proper names ?

Try doing a factory reset, delete all channels it might sort it a bit better for you ...won't sort your jumpy channels though, thoroughly check each and every connection for that .....

ye i do get it on all channels. it used to work perfect, but first the title of the favourites changed to symbols. and now all my channel names are Tvch1 to about tvch50. I can rename them all but dont know what they are.

I have tried resetting my box a few times, and donr deep scans etc.

Do you think reinstalling the firmware coould help??

I dont really think that reinstalling the firmware would help (but try it if you like) seems to be more of a tuning problem really where the box is picking up the channels but doesnt know what they are, strange,I ve never heard of this problem before, where not 1 channel was named....renaming them could take a long time, but most of them do have some sort of logo on the top left saying what they are .... I'll do a bit of research to see if I can find anything out about this, if you have any success in the meantime let me know ...

PS You could I suppose try downloading a CDF for your area if you can find one, best place to look for one of those would be here http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/dlcat-cdf-33/

Ye i do get all channels but i cant watch them. It says i have no or bad signal. However when i press info twice it says i have 85%, ocassionsally this does drop to abot 10% for a split second.

I bought a variable attenuator to adjust the signal, and this works a treat, but i have to adjust it for every channel.

            Thanks for your help.

Yes all connections have been checked. The VM box works okay, but i have heard they have better tuners.

Its so frustrating because it was working perfect for the first few months.
