got the right cables do i need a driver to upload firmware for a ex1000sl when i try to down load new firmware iit sayis looking for reciver any help would be good

I take it you are using a null modem cable connected to a usb to rs232 adaptor.

you need to go into device manager and see if you can see your adaptor is attached, if you can't then it needs a driver installing

as i am a nebie to this how will i know if it is conected when i look in device manager sorry for being thick

Click the + sign next to Ports (COM & LPT) and you should see your adaptor connected to one of the ports
